Dushyant Periwal

Managing Director

Dushyant did his schooling from Mayo College, Ajmer where he got the opportunity to participate in various academic exchange programs with prestigious institutions like Schule Schloss Salem in South Germany and the Oxford University, UK. alongside working for a Round Square Service Project in Phillipolis, South Africa. A national level Squash player and a driven academic; Dushyant graduated from Mayo by topping the Ajmer district in Arts and Humanities.

He then went on to pursue Bachelors in Hotel Management from the world renowned Ecole Hoteliere, Lausanne. After a brief period he decided to move to India to better understand the Indian Hospitality. He completed his graduation from Ecole Hotelier Lavasa (Maharashtra) which is an affiliate college of EHL, Switzerland. While in Lavasa, Dushyant along with 2 of his colleagues participated and represented India in the Accor Take Off Pan Asia Competition where the objective was to recreate Novotel as a brand in 2020. The grand finale of the competition was held in Singapore with 5 competing countries/teams. And they were the proud winners! This was the mark of an entrepreneur while only 20 years old.

In 2015, Dushyant officially joined the family business. Over a span of 4 years, The Royal Retreat doubled its room inventory by adding 60 more rooms. Passionately driven by art and creativity; in 2018 Dushyant introduced The Enigma chain of restaurants and opened the first restaurant in the heart of the city over looking Lake Pichola and the City Palace, Udaipur. Enigma within no time became Udaipur’s Go-to restaurant for a luxury fine dine experience and showed potential for exponential growth. In 2020, Enigma Royale; the second addition to the Enigma Chain was opened. Enigma Royale is a 16,500 Sq. Ft. restaurant serving 4 different cuisines divided between 4 floors coupled with extraordinary interiors and architecture that are sensational in ways. The third addition to this iconic chain is being planned and developed at the upcoming Royal Retreat in Jaipur.

Dushyant began his entrepreneurial journey in 2010 as an event manager and formed a company called WDNE, Event Management. Over a decade of being in the event industry, WDNE now has a music festival under their banner known as Rolling Hills which has already completed 2 successful seasons and is growing wild in its preparations for the third instalment; a series of Enigma Club Nights, an annual Holi festival event called The Indian Rainbow. In the past 5 years WDNE has emerged as a leading event company in Rajasthan with having conceptualised 200+ weddings in some of the most Historic properties across India like Taj Jai Mahal Palace Jaipur, Jag Mandir Palace Udaipur, City Palace Udaipur, Taj West End Bangalore, Oberoi Hotels, Mundota Fort & Palace Jaipur to name a few. WDNE is currently the In-house event company at The Royal Retreat, Udaipur. With a bright future in mind WDNE has now expanded its wings into Jaipur, Gujarat, Mumbai and Chennai and soon plan to go Pan India.

A graduate in arts with a MBA in HR and marketing, started his career in the tea and coffee plantations of south India , green finger then ventured into hospitality by joining the Taj group of hotels in operations as afom at the Rambagh Palace later rising to head travel trade sales both inbound and domestic division for the Taj group based in Delhi.
Wanderlust came calling he then joined Thomas Cook India heading their inbound MICE, the luxury train Indian maharaja, created the luxury travel division pure India which won the government of India tourism award. Travel led him to attend fairs such as PURE , ILTM Cannes , IMEX Las Vegas, ATM Dubai, ILTM Singapore , ILTM Australia, WTM and ITB. He was member of various tourism organisations like ADTOI, SITE, ICPB, ICCA.

Home calling he moved to Jaipur and worked with Starwood as GM Four Points later moving to Jaipur exhibition and convention centre one of the largest convention centre as general manager establishing the same as an exhibition and MICE centre .

Currently GM at The Royal Retreat with a vision to offer unique luxury stay experiences for the discerning guest, fabled curated weddings, MICE experiences, create exciting career opportunities for the ladies and gentlemen of the royal retreat. Step by step steer The Royal Retreat towards becoming a group hotel company with a presence in various tourism and commercial hubs of the country.

Ayesha Kutar Periwal

Born and brought up in Mumbai, Ayesha completed her graduation in Hotel Management from Ecole Hotelier Lavasa. Ayesha’s interest in Sales & marketing was evident from the primitive days. Having done her business internship in hotels like Four Seasons and Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, where in she was exposed to some of the busiest and most influential PR events attended by the country’s Creme de la creme; being part of developing strategic marketing campaigns for hotel chains; studying and understanding the market and its demands with the growing competitive nature of the hotel industry in India. She further encapsulated her learnings and experience into forming her own Sales, marketing & PR departments for The Royal Retreat, Udaipur.

In the past 5 years, Ayesha has helped grow the business of The Royal Retreat, Udaipur by many folds after entering aggressively into the MICE segment and wedding segment primarily. She has worked on branding of the company to positioning it in the market, Social media presence, creating awareness by participation in all hotel marketing platforms nationally and a select few internationally. Networking is the key!

Ayesha’s vision is to create a benchmark position where a standalone property like The Royal Retreat can stand up and compete with the fast paced growing industry and its current leaders while carve a future into making The Royal Retreat a Nation renowned Hotel Chain very soon with their own uniqueness and cadre.

The above quote is very apt for our chairperson Mrs. Mamta Periwal, an alumni of the fabled Maharani Gayatri Devi School, Jaipur. An academic and a sportswoman who further went on to pursue academics as an art student in english literature earning her masters from the university of Delhi.

The journey of The Royal Retreat begins with Mrs. Periwal as it was her brain child. An intuitive visionary who back in the early 1990’s fell in love with a beautiful piece of land in the countryside of Udaipur nestled by the majestic Aravalli Hills. She envisioned to create an abode of love & care and warm hospitality coupled with the natural surroundings and aesthetics of Mayur Arts. She was instrumental in conceptualising the initial phase of the company and the hotel as well as its management.

One of her key ideas was Investing into building a land bank for the company to eventually grow into a chain of hotels nation wide. Thanks to her proactive thinking today, The Royal Retreat Jaipur is already under construction while plans for the Goa and Bera (Rajasthan) hotels are being developed.

Humane by nature and a Philanthropist; she does a lot of charity work in her native city, Jaipur. Currently she is pursuing to help the local community of Bari, Udaipur to develop a better medical and educational system for its inhabitants.

Mr. Hemant Periwal comes from an illustrious business family with their main business in Kalimpong. The family and parents moved to Udaipur to further expand the business in the early 1960s. He attended school and college in Udaipur. Mr. Periwal is an accomplished athlete in the fields of pole vaulting, Javelin throw and hammer throw, in 1974 he created history whilst in school by creating two records in Pole Vault and the Hammer throw.

The visionary Mr. Periwal started Mayur Arts with a capital of Rs 300 in 1974 exhibiting Tibetian and Nepali Arts , Handicraft and Nomadic Art. The turning point was in 1977 where in with his business acumen he took a shop in The Lake Palace Udaipur, displaying very carefully selected sandalwood collection, furniture, enamel artefacts, the journey continued till 1985 , another turning point came and Mayur Arts expanded further by opening a new gallery in Sardarpura, Udaipur.

With an extremely experienced and keen eye for antiques , Mr. Periwal went overseas to UK and USA on tour to further expand Mayur Arts , he
would regularly attend the Edinburgh Festival to buy antiques and their sale. He ensured authenticity and value for his ever expanding global clients.

The World Elite became the clientele of Mayur Arts such as Mick Jagger, Lady Bramford, Paul Mcartney , King of Morocco Mohammed VI , also the top interior designers and Architects in the World would buy the fabled curated Handicraft and Art work from Mayur Art. Many World renowned Museums also sought his expertise on antiques. In 1991 Mr. Periwal got married , lady luck smiled in 1993 the land where Mayur Art is at present was bought and in 1996 the land for The Royal Retreat was bought there by laying the foundation of expansion of business into the Hospitality sector.

Mr. Periwal has very strong beliefs in hand crafts and still ensures that hand made skills and traditions are kept alive by way off ensuring a platform to these award winning artisans to sell and showcase their skill to the world in areas of Handicrafts, Miniature painting, wood and marble sculptures, Pichhwai paintings , all got a lease of life due to his unrelenting work in this field.

Mr. Joshi is not only an integral part of the business family but also a part of the Periwal Family as often quoted by Mr. Periwal. He has been with the company for over two decades and is the strongest and the most reliant pillar of the organisation. His experience and knowledge on the subject of finance is unparalleled and his wisdom has greatly helped shape the company to its current capacity.

Mr. Rajeev Joshi sought his MBA in finance from the prestigious Poddar institute of management Jaipur. With a career spanning two and half decades in the banking sector , he has specialised in investment, foreign exchange, micro finance, agriculture finance , macro finance , credit worthiness of businesses and import export arenas. He executes the group strategic planning in terms off investments, acquisitions, foreign exchange and import-export of our group companies and handicraft business.
